Who We Are

We will provide a KU student experience in which every student is supported by the campus environment, connected to the institution, and prepared for the challenges of today and tomorrow.

The mission of Student Affairs is to engage the KU community in programs, services, and spaces that make learning possible

We build community by engaging students in cocurricular experiences and spaces through a shared sense of belonging.

We positively impact the lives of students through programs and services that meet the needs of all Jayhawks.

We prioritize students’ well-being by promoting holistic health, wellness, and safety to help Jayhawks achieve their goals. 

Priority #1: Enrich the Student Experience

KU Priorities: Student Success, Healthy & Vibrant Communities, Research & Discovery

We will develop and expand programs, services, and spaces that enrich the student experience, foster a sense of belonging, and support student learning and development.
 

Objectives

Provide programs, services, and spaces that foster student belonging and engagement.

Facilitate and assess outcome-based experiences that support student learning and success.

Provide student leadership, service, and employment opportunities that promote personal and professional development.

Enhance student support by providing resources and programs that address basic needs insecurity, affordability, and access.

Build meaningful and sustained engagement with parents and families to enhance student success.

Priority #2: Invest in Our Staff

KU Priority: Healthy & Vibrant Communities

We will invest in Student Affairs staff by developing a comprehensive recruitment and onboarding experience, promoting continuous learning and development, creating opportunities for connection and engagement, and recognizing staff contributions.

Objectives

Implement recruitment and onboarding strategies to attract quality position candidates and help them acclimate to KU Student Affairs.

Expand opportunities and experiences for campus, local, regional, and/or national professional development to support staff learning.

Improve staff retention through interpersonal connection and engagement opportunities. 

Recognize and celebrate staff successes and contributions to KU Student Affairs’ mission. 

Priority #3: Support Health & Well-Being

KU Priority: Healthy & Vibrant Communities

We will enhance the holistic well-being of students and staff by providing comprehensive wellness programs and services, increasing access to wellness resources, and addressing basic needs insecurity. 

Objectives

Enhance and expand student access to basic needs, mental health, and wellness resources.

Support staff well-being by implementing tailored wellness initiatives, increasing awareness of available resources, and regularly assessing needs.

Foster collaborations and partnerships to unify wellness initiatives, promote available resources, and provide ongoing training. 

Priority #4: Share Our Story

KU Priority: Healthy & Vibrant Communities

We will enhance communication and engagement by using consistent and effective messaging, strengthening our digital presence, and applying data-driven storytelling to highlight the impact of our programs and services.

Objectives

Enhance communication tools and strategies to ensure clear, consistent, and effective messaging to internal and external audiences.

Strengthen digital presence by regularly updating websites, leveraging social media platforms, and using newsletters to engage broad audiences.

Share Student Affairs’ impact on student success through strategic storytelling, data-driven communications, and aligned marketing and branding materials.

Priority #5: Optimize Infrastructure

We will optimize Student Affairs’ infrastructure by evaluating and improving physical spaces, managing funding and strategic partnerships, and embracing technological solutions to meet the evolving needs of the campus community.

Objectives

Assess and optimize the use of Student Affairs’ physical spaces to better meet the needs of students and staff, increase space usage, and plan for routine maintenance and capital improvements.

Manage funding sources and strengthen partnerships to secure resources and support for programs, services, and spaces.

Identify and leverage technology solutions to improve efficiency, accessibility, student engagement, and the delivery of programs and services. 

Plan and implement strategies to support Student Affairs’ efforts to match enrollment trends and evolving student needs.
