Student Affairs Team Spotlight — Communications

Get to know the Student Affairs Communications Team.

Q. How many staff serve on the Communications Team?

A. Two- Morelle Maddox, Director of Student Affairs Communications, and Alex Martinez, Student Communications Associate.

Q. How do student staff support your team's work or mission?

A. They help support the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs by collecting photos and video of events, designing graphic for social media posts, and assisting in the production of video interviews.

Q. What does your team do?

A. Our team works with a variety of media to tell the story of the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs and its 14 departments through print and digital communications.

Q. What are your department's programs, signature events, and/or services?

A. As we are a team that supports Student Affairs departments, we do not organize any programming or signature events. We do support other departments with making their programs and services possible. Our most commonly used service is event photography and videography, as well as material and communications assistance. Departments can complete a form with information about the event or project that they need assistance with, and we follow up to consult with them about their needs. This process is collaborative, as our departments are the experts on their particular subject matter.

Q. How does your team make learning possible?

A. We support our departments in engaging students in programming, sharing resources for students and their families, and promoting overall personal wellness.

Q. What team successes or achievements are you most proud of?

A. Planning and executing the Student Affairs Communicators Spring Retreat in January 2025 was a fulfilling experience. This retreat gave communicators the opportunity to meet their colleagues in person, discuss common challenges for communicators, learn about summer orientation changes, and attend workshops on social media use and storytelling. Each department was represented by at least one staff member.
