KU Student Affairs Announces the Establishment of the Office of Family Engagement

LAWRENCE — KU Student Affairs is excited to announce the establishment of the Office of Family Engagement. This office connects family members of University of Kansas students with resources and opportunities to support their students’ KU experience and fosters the understanding that support systems extend beyond conventional family structures.

“I believe that family is essential to a student's success,” said Nikita Haynie, Director of the Office of Family Engagement. “By leading this office, I have the opportunity to empower parents and families with the tools and resources they need to support their students throughout their KU journey. The transition to college can be challenging for both students and their families, and our office is committed to making that transition as smooth and supportive as possible.”

A presentation led by the Office of Family Engagement will be hosted at KU’s summer orientation sessions to connect with parents and guests. This presentation will introduce resources to Jayhawk family members that can help them support their first-year students in the transition from high school to college.

The Office of Family Engagement also oversees the operations of the KU Family Association, an organization that welcomes all family members of current KU students. KU Family Association membership is free, and board membership requires attendance at the annual fall and spring Family Association meetings. Interested family members can submit contact information via this form to receive future communications.

A notable event that the Office of Family Engagement will be spearheading in Fall 2025 is KU's annual Family Weekend, held from Friday, September 26th, to Sunday, September 28th. Family members of current students will be invited to attend the KU vs. Cincinnati home game on Saturday, September 27th, in the remodeled David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium with their students and participate in a variety of events hosted by KU organizations and units. Information regarding registration, accommodations, and schedule will be added to the Family Weekend webpage when available.
