KU Student Affairs Welcomes New Director for Sorority & Fraternity Life

LAWRENCE — KU Student Affairs welcomes Kari Murphy as the new Director for Sorority and Fraternity Life (SFL).

Murphy has held numerous positions dedicated to advising, supporting, and overseeing various sorority and fraternity chapters and councils across five different university campuses since 2008. With extensive experience with student organizations, Murphy is eager to contribute to the University of Kansas’s campus environment.

“I know this year will be a whirlwind and I’m excited to live in the moment, say yes to many opportunities that come my way, engage with the SFL community, and ingrain myself in the KU culture,” said Murphy. “SFL has many moving parts and stakeholders and I’m excited to lean into all aspects of this work.”

Murphy reports to Dr. Katie Treadwell, Assistant Vice Provost of Student Affairs.

“Kari is skilled in cultivating and managing financial resources for the SFL community, as well as responding to critical incidents and crises among SFL student populations,” said Treadwell. “Her leadership will help to elevate KU’s strong SFL community and position it for success in the coming years.”

As KU’s Director of Sorority and Fraternity Life, Murphy assists the SFL team in their commitment to supporting, leading, engaging, and informing students at the University of Kansas. Murphy serves as a resource to both internal and external stakeholders for affairs related to sorority and fraternity life, such as students, families, faculty, staff, and community members.

“I hope to be able to evaluate needs, elevate our work, and be a strong partner for other areas of the university,” said Murphy. “This year will be a year of learning and growth for me, and I’m looking forward to having wonderful colleagues alongside me to help me learn, consider new ideas, and provide context.”

SFL is a department of KU Student Affairs. Led by Vice Provost Dr. Tammara Durham, KU Student Affairs coordinates and develops student services and programs that encourage a connection to community, celebration of identity and personal exploration, and expanding of personal definitions of wellness.
