Steve Bergman Named KU Student Affairs January 2026 Employee of the Month

Congratulations to the January Student Affairs Employee of the Month: Steve Bergman!

Steve serves as director of housing facilities for KU Housing and Residence Life (HRL). As Director, Steve manages the maintenance and operations of HRL facilities. Further, Steve coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of capital projects in residential facilities and serves as the primary liaison to centralized KU offices, including Facilities Services, Custodial Services, and Facilities Planning & Development.

He works closely with contractors, vendors, architects, and suppliers to represent the best interests of HRL while coordinating project delivery, resource allocation, and future planning.

In the words of his nominator, Sarah Waters, executive director of HRL: “Steve models the way for his staff and other KU employees when it comes to collaborating, supporting wellness and safety initiatives, and positively impacting the student and staff experience. While Steve’s job demands that he is reactive, he is always forward-thinking about process improvements and facilities updates or investments that would improve the HRL environment. Steve’s contagious enthusiasm and positive approach to work have made a very strong impact on the overall morale and culture of HRL.”
