Faculty and Staff Volunteer Opportunities

As Jayhawks are preparing to return to campus, opportunities for faculty and staff to connect with students are approaching! Below are in-person opportunities to welcome students to the Jayhawk family, as well as meet other KU faculty and staff. Volunteer shifts vary in length and location.

Jayhawks Give a Flock (Aug. 16 & 22)

With the help of faculty and staff, The Sexual Assault Prevention & Education Center will train all incoming first-year students to be empowered and informed bystanders. You can help shape a safer, stronger KU by becoming a flock facilitator or volunteer.

How you can help:

Facilitators teach a bystander curriculum with a co-facilitator to a classroom of approximately 30 students for 1.5 hours. To become a facilitator, there is a 3 hour in-person training involved.

There are a variety of roles for this position included, but not limited to assigning students to rooms, wayfinding, etc. This role does not require a training.

Move-in Operations (Aug. 20 & 21)

Volunteer to help students move in to residence halls across campus. Follow up emails from Housing & Residence Life and Transportation Services directing participants to specific location assignments will be sent closer to move-in. Volunteers should be prepared for any type of weather.

How you can help:

Building Support Volunteers greet families at halls, and then direct them to unload and move their vehicle to long term parking. Volunteers may also request to help students move items to their room.

Welcome tent support will answer KU specific questions at the Central Bank Welcome Tent.

Direct vehicles to the appropriate line for their hall.

Move-In Finish Line Family Reception (Aug. 20 & 21)

Move-In Day marks a significant milestone—not only for students, but also for their parents, families, and supporters. The Office of Family Engagement is seeking volunteers to welcome parents and families who have just helped their students move-in. Volunteers will check in Jayhawk family members, pass out commemorative medals, and assist guests with the
photobooth.

their classes.
