KU Student Affairs Welcomes New Executive Director for Hilltop Child Development Center

LAWRENCE — KU Student Affairs welcomes Cori Berg as the new Executive Director for the Hilltop Child Development Center (Hilltop).

Berg has more than 27 years of experience working in early childhood education, serving both as a teacher and administrator. She has most recently served as Executive Director for Hope Day School in Dallas, Texas. Berg has demonstrated extensive experience with early childhood curriculum and kindergarten readiness, alignment with state licensing and learning standards, and NAEYC accreditation standards.

“I'm excited to share my passion for science- and arts-based education, community partnerships, and innovative learning programs as Hilltop enters a new chapter in its long history,” said Berg.

Berg reports to Jennifer Wamelink, Associate Vice Provost of Student Affairs.

“Cori is a warm and engaging leader with a true passion for early childhood education,” said Wamelink. “We are confident that Cori is the right person to lead Hilltop at this time of expansion due to her experience, her knowledge and continuing education, and her commitment to quality instruction and educators.”

Berg’s appointment coincides with a period of growth at Hilltop. Construction was completed on Hilltop West, a second location on west campus, in May 2024. This expansion increased Hilltop’s overall capacity by 44 percent this past fall, allowing Hilltop to serve more families and employ additional KU students as part-time student-aides.

“Hilltop has two beautiful campuses for young children with a strong commitment to holistic care and education,” said Berg. “I'm eager to join Hilltop Child Development Center's legacy of early childhood leaders and educators who have supported the children of faculty, staff, and students at the University of Kansas and families in Lawrence.”

Hilltop is a department of KU Student Affairs. Led by Vice Provost Dr. Tammara Durham, KU Student Affairs engages the KU community in programs, services, and spaces that make learning possible.
