Mataia Gales Named KU Student Affairs February 2026 Employee of the Month

Congratulations to the February Student Affairs Employee of the Month: Mataia Gales!

Mataia serves as assistant director for Student Senate leadership in the Office of the Vice Provost for Student Affairs. As assistant director, Mataia serves as the primary advisor to the Student Senate Executive team, providing leadership, guidance, and ongoing support. She attends all Student Senate meetings, offering assistance and advice to students as needed, and works closely with the Student Senate finance and budget teams to help ensure compliance with University policies and procedures.

In the words of her nominator, Mo Maddox, director of Student Affairs communications: “As an officemate, I frequently see students stopping by to meet with Mataia for both professional and personal support. She thoughtfully considers her colleagues' workload when requesting their assistance for projects, and cares deeply about the outcome of her work. During particularly strenuous times, such as Student Fee Hearing Week, Mataia maintains a positive yet realistic attitude, and showcases her ability to work under pressure. Mataia has been a dependable resource in the four years I have worked in Student Affairs, and I appreciate all of the ways she has made, both staff and student learning possible.”
