Strategic Planning Process Updates

August 2016
  • Strategic planning process outline developed and shared with Dr. Tammara Durham.
September 2016
  • Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee members identified by Dr. Durham, Dr. Jane Tuttle, and Jennifer Wamelink.
  • Announcement of strategic planning process shared with all Student Affairs staff via email announcement from Dr. Durham.
October 2016
  • Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee members notified of appointment via email from Dr. Durham.
  • Phase 1 Survey administered to Student Affairs Leadership Team and Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee members on October 5th. The survey closed on October 17th with a 96% response rate.
  • First Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee held on October 24th.
  • Overview of Student Affairs strategic planning process shared with all division staff at the Fall Student Affairs Convocation held on October 25th.
  • Based on feedback provided by the Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee and Leadership Team, the division’s mission and vision statements were revised. In addition, the decision was made to use the Jayhawk Values as our division values statements.
November 2016
  • Revised mission, vision, and values statements finalized.
  • Phase 2 Staff Survey sent out to all Student Affairs Staff via email from Dr. Durham on November 7th.
December 2016
  • Phase 2 Staff Survey closed on December 2nd with a total of 59 responses.
  • Phase 2 Staff Survey responses sent to Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee members for analysis on December 5th.
January 2017
  • Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee members continued to analyze Phase 2 Staff Survey responses.
February 2017
  •  Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee meeting held on February 2nd.
  • Using Phase 2 Staff Survey responses, the Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee developed and finalized a SWOT (Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threats) Analysis.​
  • Using the finalized SWOT Analysis, Strategic Planning Committee members individually developed a total of 128 strategic alternatives. Individual strategic alternatives were then coded and grouped into 10 draft overall themes/strategic goals.
  • Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee meeting held on February 13th.
  • List of draft strategic goals shared with Dr. Durham for review on February 16th.  
  • Phase 3 Strategic Goals Survey sent out to all Student Affairs Staff via email from Dr. Durham on February 20th.
March 2017
  • Phase 3 Strategic Goals Survey closed on March 3rd with a total of 112 respondents.
  • Phase 3 Strategic Goals Survey results shared with Dr. Durham. With Dr. Durham’s feedback, 2017 – 2020 Strategic Goals were finalized on March 6th.
  • Student Affairs Strategic Planning Committee meeting held on March 6th.
