Sponsored Student, Jayhawk Semester and International Scholarship Programs

The Office of International Programs manages programs offering specialized support for sponsored international students, non-degree international students on the Jayhawk Semester Program, and international scholarship students.

The Sponsored Student Program provides a point of contact for students and sponsoring organizations and offers personal and direct service. A sponsored student is any international student whose tuition and/or fees are paid directly to the University of Kansas by an outside organization, embassy, government or corporation.

The Jayhawk Semester Program offers an option for international students to enroll at KU for a semester or year-long academic program.  In the program students can enroll in regular KU courses in their academic field as well as take courses in the Applied English Center.

Programs and Services for sponsored and Jayhawk Semester students

  • Assistance with course placement and advising
  • Guidance for students regarding university and program policies and procedures
  • Counseling on housing, health or family concerns, and other issues
  • Mailing of final transcript to home university or sponsoring organization

International student scholarships, both renewable and onetime, are available to freshman and transfer international applicants.  The office coordinates with the International Admissions office to determine eligibility, reviews candidate scores and materials, and makes final offers, as well as tracks continued scholarship eligibility for current scholarship students and provides resources to assist students.
